Known for his trailblazing work, he founded Karnataka’s first video laparoscopic center in 1993 and introduced Bariatric Surgery to India, including performing the country’s first Gastric Bypass Surgery.
With expertise in over 12,000 surgeries, Dr. Makam has become a global authority, holding the world record for Banded Sleeve Gastrectomies. He is not just a surgeon but an educator and innovator, having trained more than 1,500 surgeons worldwide and developed India’s first Virtual Reality Laparoscopic Surgery Training Module in collaboration with DRDO. Currently, he serves as the Head of GI, Minimal Invasive & Bariatric Surgery at A.V. Hospital and Arka Anugraha Hospital, while also directing the Bangalore Endoscopic Surgery Training Institute.
